The CPP Lines Team has recently achieved a remarkable milestone by completing OPGW stringing over live 500kV circuits on the SYTS–MLTS line—a first in Australia. This complex and high-risk operation demanded meticulous planning and flawless execution, and it was certainly not a task for the faint-hearted. The precision and professionalism displayed by our field crews were instrumental to the project’s success.

Adding to the challenge, one of the runs involved stringing not only above live 500kV circuits but also across the Western Freeway and the Melbourne–Ballarat railway line, both of which remained operational during the work. Energy Safe Victoria attended the site to observe this highly complex operation. With numerous stakeholders involved, the coordination and execution couldn’t have gone more smoothly.

Our innovative restringing methodology also saved an estimated 13,200 minutes of combined outage time.

Earlier this year, the team successfully completed OPGW stringing over live 220kV circuits on the YPS–ROTS line. Achieving the same outcome on a 500kV line now firmly establishes the CPP Lines Team as a national industry leader with an unparalleled capability.
