CPP to collaborate with Akaysha on Orana BESS BoP project

Consolidated Power Projects (CPP) is pleased to announce the signing of contracts with Akaysha Energy for the Orana Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Balance of Plant (BoP) project. Akaysha Energy will oversee the deployment of a groundbreaking large-scale BESS near Wellington in central West New South Wales. This cutting-edge facility will boast a remarkable capacity of 415MW and provide 1660MWh of energy storage.

Strategically located within a -10 hectare site adjacent to the electricity grid and TransGrid’s 330kV zone substation, approximately 2km north-east of Wellington NSW, the project aims to minimize the need for extensive high voltage power lines and reduce visual impacts on the local landscape.

With a project value exceeding $650 million, the Orana BESS is slated to commence operations in 2026, marking a significant milestone in Australia’s renewable energy sector. CPP’s regional manager for New South Wales, Abdul Dabaja, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and effort of our team, including tendering, engineering, delivery, legal, and civil departments. They have put in an incredible amount of time and effort in the last few months to achieve this major milestone.”

Key features of the Orana BESS project include 415 MW of battery energy storage for up to 4 hours (1660MWh capacity), incorporating 448 MP2XL megapacks, 112 step-up transformers, 16 RMU enclosures, an operations and maintenance area, extensive earthworks, drainage systems, a dedicated 1.3km access road linking the site to public infrastructure, upgrades to Goolma Road, a 330kV substation with dual main transformers, and approximately 350m of 330kV high-voltage cable connecting the BESS substation to the existing TransGrid Wellington Substation.

CPP looks forward to leveraging its expertise in the energy sector to contribute to the successful delivery of this ambitious project that promises to enhance energy reliability and sustainability in the region.
