The Koorangie Energy Storage System (KESS) is a significant renewable energy project in Northwest Victoria, near Kerang. Currently in development, it involves constructing a 185 MW/370 MWh battery energy storage system to boost the renewable hosting capacity of the Murray River Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) by up to 300 MW.

Edify Energy is developing a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) approximately 17 km northwest from the existing Kerang Terminal Station in Victoria. KESS connects to AusNet’s 220kV transmission network, providing system strength to the Murray River REZ.
Edify Energy holds a system support agreement with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) for 125 MW of services to enhance the regional power system. Additionally, the project benefits from a 15-year term offtake agreement with Shell Energy for its full capacity.
It utilises Tesla Megapacks equipped with grid-forming inverters operating in ‘Virtual Machine Mode’.
